Poznań OLD BREWERY NEW DANCE at Malta Festival / 2018

Moving the Mirror

How does contemporary dance in Poland and Germany reflect the changes in the democratization process after 1989 and the growing relationship between the two countries? Where is the source of energy with which young artists bring their often feminist, queer, utopian and politically motivated projects to life? The work reports on a significant shift from traditional authoritarian structures to egalitarian, democratic ways of working, in which modes of design, gender issues and institutional criticism revitalized the field of choreography.

Peter Pleyer teaches and performs regularly in Poland, worked as a dramaturge with Marysia Stokłosa in 2010, and was a mentor for artists in the Art Stations Foundation’s Solo Projects program in 2018. The performance Moving the Mirror, with the participation of Polish and Berlin performers, was created in 2016 in cooperation with the Art Stations Foundation and the Center for Contemporary Art – Ujazdowki Castle.
